I’m Lisa Duez, LCSW. I’m a therapist, trauma-informed coach, EMDR consultant, and founder of Turning Point Counseling & Consulting in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
After two decades in agencies where clinicians often felt unseen and exhausted, I launched a solo practice in 2016. By 2019, it had grown into a thriving group practice. In the midst of 2020’s challenges, we didn’t shrink—we commissioned two offices and grew to 25+ dedicated therapists.
Today, we deliver collaborative, trauma-informed care in-person and online across Virginia with clinician well-being at the core.
Beyond leading Turning Point, I offer clinical supervision, EMDR consultation, leadership coaching, speaking engagements, and founded the Clinician Connection Conference—all to empower therapists and practice owners to lead with clarity, boundaries, and care.

How a Solo Practice of One Became a Community of 25+ Clinicians
My journey into business ownership didn’t follow a traditional path—it came later in my career, after years of working in a wide range of agency settings. Over time, it became clear: the bureaucratic systems I was working in weren’t aligned with how I wanted to show up for my clients, or for my colleagues. The red tape, the burnout, the lack of vision—it just wasn’t my vibe.
In 2016, I took a leap of faith and opened a solo private practice.
By 2019, that solo practice had evolved into a small group practice. Then came 2020. In the midst of a global shutdown, when so many mental health organizations were contracting, we expanded—twice. We leaned into what mattered most: showing up for our community, and for each other.
Today, Turning Point Counseling and Consulting is home to a team of over 25 clinicians, with two physical offices in Hampton Roads and teletherapy services offered throughout Virginia.
At the core of everything we do is a commitment to collaborative, trauma-informed care, and the belief that clinician well-being is not negotiable.
Real Conversations, Tangible Tools, & Meaningful Community
In addition to clinical work and coaching, I’m a passionate speaker and educator on the topics that matter most to those doing the work: trauma-informed leadership, moral injury in clinicians, identity and authenticity in leadership, and mental health resiliency.
I believe the best talks are not just informational—they’re transformational. Whether I’m speaking to a packed room at a national conference or leading an intimate supervision training, I focus on creating safe, connected spaces where clinicians can reflect, grow, and feel seen.
In 2023, I founded the Clinician Connection Conference to do exactly that: create a supportive, empowering experience for therapists inside and outside of the therapy room.
